Orchard Park is a community-oriented church with a Mennonite heritage. Since its beginning, Orchard Park has been affiliated with the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1971 – present), the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1971 – present), and the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (1971 – 2002).
Orchard Park Bible Church was founded to be a local church, whose people are committed to being faithful disciples of Jesus Christ in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and around the world.
Throughout its history, Orchard Park has maintained a firm commitment to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, trusting in and teaching God’s Word, and showing God’s love to all.
Orchard Park began as an outgrowth of the Virgil Mennonite Brethren Church. Founded in January 1971 by 99 charter members and their families, Orchard Park began to meet in rented facilities at the former Eden Christian College. Coming from a German-speaking heritage, Orchard Park was formed to offer worship and fellowship to the younger generations in the English language. Under the leadership of a dedicated committee of five men, the young church thrived as a family-oriented fellowship with a strong emphasis on inter-generational participation.
Rev. Herman Kroeker served as the first pastor. During this time, Orchard Park’s focus on reaching the community brought opportunities for Christian input and involvement in various local events. A tract of land was purchased on Hunter Road, and in 1974 construction of a church building was begun. It was an exciting time involving volunteers of all ages, working in unity to build their church.
To continue its focus on reaching out to the surrounding community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a large addition, the present facility, was added to the original building in 1995.
As Orchard Park continued to minister to the community, it was led by a number of dedicated pastors. Since 2005, Jim Evans has served as Lead Pastor. God has also blessed Orchard Park with leaders and volunteers who have demonstrated a prayerful faithfulness to Christ, each other, and to helping others.
Today, Orchard Park continues to pursue its mission to proclaim Christ and make disciples devoted to Him, both locally, and throughout the world.
Much time and deliberate consideration was given to the choice of the name Orchard Park Bible Church at its beginning. Today, that name still portrays with clear distinction what characterizes the church. It is still situated in the beautiful fruit and wine region of Niagara-on-the-Lake. But most important, is the fact that the truth of the Scriptures is taught consistently and with conviction!
We thank God for the heritage and privilege of serving Christ and our community through Orchard Park!
